Writing a book isn’t really just about writing a book.
It’s about proving yourself wrong, keeping your promise to yourself, and accomplishing that thing that scares you the most. That thing you’ve secretly been telling yourself you can’t accomplish (but you CAN). It’s about actually doing what most people only ever dream about (and some don’t even dare to). And let’s be real. It’s also about having a tangible product, one you can hold in your hands like it’s your baby. One that can very likely make you some money (and we ALL want money).
Look I get it. I’ve been there.
You want badly to get that book done and out into the world but you feel stuck. And what’s more you can’t even figure out why or how to move forward.
You’re not lazy…
You’re not even blocked.
And you’re certainly not a failure.
You’re just afraid.
Afraid you’ll fail.
Afraid you won’t fail (see what I did there?).
And you wish you could just wave a magic wand and make it all go away and after the cloud of smoke cleared you’d have a completed and perfect manuscript. Am I right?
But the my friends is fantasy. And though you may not want to hear this, I’m going to tell you anyway, because I care.
Getting it written is hardest part. No way around it.
Whether you’ve read other people’s work and said to yourself “meh, I could do better.”
Or you just want the immense satisfaction of having completed a work and told your story.
Or you’re tired of not following through on your ideas only to find that other people surely have.
Or you’re looking to have a publishable manuscript on your hands.
One thing’s for sure. Creativity and talent will only get you so far. To get it done, you need to put in the work. And putting in the work is much easier when you have a system. And a friendly guide to help you through that system. That’s me *throws fairy dust*
And once you do get it done (because you will). It’s the Most. Rewarding. Thing. Ever.
The sense of fulfillment and accomplishment you feel is unlike anything you ever experienced.
It’s like a weight being lifted off your shoulders. It’s liberating. and incredibly satisfying to know you’ve kept your promise to yourself and soon you start to think that maybe, just maybe you can accomplish anything.
So now how do we get it done?
There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you. -Maya Angelou
We remove the roadblocks.
We start by giving you the space to actually create. I’m talking about mental space here. Gotta clear that mental space of some of the junk that’s built up in there. The “junk” that I see that holds writers back the most are indecision, inconsistent practice, editing while writing, and not knowing the story. We address and obliterate this junk during our sessions so that you’re free to get back to what’s most important: writing.
Working with me, you’ll learn:
- The thing you need to do first (before you even sit down and pick up a pen) that will ensure your success no matter what.
- Exactly how to get into a flow that works for you and takes full advantage of your peak writing times.
- Learn the ways in which you are your own worst enemy, and what to do about it.
- The one simple little trick that can easily double your daily word count and get the draft onto the page in record time.
The most difficult and complicated part of the writing process is the beginning. -A. B. Yehoshua
OK now for the specifics…
I have three options for coaching. Each option includes:
- an hour long (more if we need it) Skype or phone session per week
- unlimited email support between calls
- time tested worksheets and templates you can use again and again
- a friendly, yet discerning ear to bounce your ideas off of. I won’t write the story for you. I won’t plant ideas in your head. But I will ask the empowering questions that will help ramp up your idea and make your story better.
The only difference between options is how deeply into the writing process we go.
How It Works – This is a four week program. Start by filling out an initial questionnaire so we can get an idea of what story ideas you may already have. If you’re starting from scratch and don’t even have a story idea, don’t fret. We can come up with one together. Once we have your idea chosen, we’ll refine it a bit. We’ll flesh out your main characters and iron out the details regarding your setting. Then we’ll dive into your scenes, creating a comprehensive outline.
What You Come Away With – A full fledged, scene by scene outline of your story, character sketches and setting documents. You’re ready to get writing!
Your Investment – $199 (one time payment)
How It Works – This twelve week program is the ultimate for those who just want to get their book done already. We start with examining your current writing practices to determine your most productive times and habits. This will be instrumental in actually getting your book written. Once we’ve gotten you into a good groove, we dig in and find your idea. Then we explore it with a healthy dose of free writing. The idea then gets refined through the pre-writing process. This is where we really dig in and shape your story. We go from the idea formation phase quickly into some brainstorming so as to begin to establish a foundation for your story as soon as possible. Then we’ll move through pre-writing to establish a structure hat you can work from. And then from there, it’s go time! We set your output goals and then check in to make sure the nitty gritty of actually writing your story gets done.
What You Come Away With – A finished first draft! It’ll likely be far from perfect. But it’ll be done. Seriously, how many people can say that? Not very many.
Your Investment – $599 (can be broken down into installments)
How It Works – The program lasts a minimum of six months. You get everything you would get in the Novel In Ninety Package PLUS three rounds of edits. This is an amazing deal as the editing alone is worth more than the price of this package. There’s no time limit for this package. We’ll get your initial draft done within ninety days but the editing process will go for as long as it takes for us to complete our three rounds. To get some more information on the specifics of my editing process, click here.
Round One – We’ll review the manuscript you’ve just written. This is a quick read-through to identify any major problems with you story. We’ll take note of any parts that take us out of the flow and any fatty parts that need trimming. We’ll suggest plot improvements to strengthen the overall story arc and structure. This should be a quick pass because a lot of this would have already been fixed in earlier sessions together when were putting together your story in the first place. Once you’ve re-written to make these macro changes, we’ll move on to round two.
Round Two – This is an in-depth, comprehensive, line-editing that includes rewriting sentences, improving word choice, and strengthening dialogue. We really pick apart your scenes here to make sure they work as well as they possibly can. You’ll end up with a very clean and much improved manuscript, but with lots of comments and suggestions, which will probably require some more rewriting on your part.
Round Three – A final round of proofreading to put the final polish on your baby. We’ll eliminate any remaining typos, errors, or inconsistencies, and make sure everything is as good as it can be.
What You Come Away With – A completely finished, polished manuscript ready to send to beta readers, an agent, or to submit for publication.
Your Investment – $1199 (can be broken down into installments)
Don’t just take my word for it
My very first coaching client had a lot of the same issues you struggle with. It took a little convincing but eventually she hired me to help her get her book done..a book she’d been working on for eleven years.
We went from scattered story fragments and barely fleshed out ideas, to a completed manuscript, to A PUBLISHED BOOK in less than a year (9 months to be exact)!
